Google Business Profile Checklist for Service Businesses

Review the real business facts behind your Google Business Profile, record evidence and prioritize corrections with a free checklist.

Start with the real business

Before editing a profile, confirm how the business actually operates: where customers can visit, where the team travels, which services are offered and how customers contact it. Keep a dated record of those facts and the source used to verify each one.

Google’s business representation guidelines require an accurate representation of the real business. Check the current guidance for your business model rather than borrowing another company’s setup.

Review the facts customers rely on

  • The business name matches its real-world representation.
  • The address or service-area setup reflects the actual operating model.
  • The primary category and additional categories describe the business accurately.
  • Regular and special hours reflect when customers can receive service.
  • The phone and website reach the correct business and destination.
  • Services and photos describe work the business actually provides.

For every proposed correction, record the current value, intended value, supporting evidence and who can confirm it. Separate an inaccurate fact from a preference about presentation.

Also review your review-request and response process against Google’s current Maps content policy. Record the policy checked, date and any process needing review. This check does not decide whether a specific review will be removed.

Check the path after the profile visit

Open the linked website and check the relevant service information, contact route and mobile experience. If a customer calls, confirm that the number reaches the intended team. Coordinate any test with the business so it is recognized as a test.

Keep profile interactions, received inquiries and qualified opportunities separate in reporting. A profile interaction does not tell you whether a person reached the business or became a customer.

Make corrections in a manageable order

Prioritize facts that could send a customer to the wrong place or prevent contact. Keep a change record with dates and evidence. If a change triggers an account review or additional requirements, follow the instructions shown for that account; a checklist does not establish verification eligibility.

The downloadable worksheet uses accurate, needs review, not checked and not applicable states. It is a record of your review, not a ranking score or a promise that a profile will be accepted.

Keep profile review and market planning separate

This checklist helps you review profile facts. Use the Local SEO Market Planner for operating geography, website page roles and measurement planning. Use the geo-grid guide to interpret a comparable local visibility sample.
